NOARC’s mandate is to provide high quality psycho-educational assessments to students enrolled in post secondary institutions. A standard assessment completed through NOARC is $2300 plus travel costs if applicable. Assessment costs should not be a burden to students and we do not ask that students pay for their assessment with funds that they need for other expenses.
However, NOARC funding is limited and therefore NOARC requires students to explore all 6 funding options available to them to help recover the costs of their assessment.
There are a number of different funding options that students may be able to access to help recover the cost of their assessment. Students are to complete the NOARC Student Declaration form to indicate the funding that they have available.
Funding Options:
1) Bursary for Students with Disabilities (BSWD)
Any student approved for OSAP is eligible for funding through BSWD. During the referral process all students are required to apply for OSAP if they haven’t already done so.
Funding through the bursary does not require repayment and is not considered income which means they do not have to repay the cost nor will they pay income tax on it.
2) Extended Health Care (EHC)
In come cases students may have access to funding through personal health insurance, usually through personal or parental employment. There is no need to provide specific health insurance information during the referral. But, you need to contact your insurance provider to see if you have coverage. Note, assessments are usually covered under psychological services.
For EHC funded assessments, invoices are sent directly to the student along with a letter indicating how to proceed with submitting the invoice to your health insurance provider. Your provider will analyze the invoice and make a determination on how much of your assessment they will fund. Any remaining costs not covered by health insurance can be covered by NOARC.
3) Student Health Insurance
As part of enrolment most students have access to a Student Health Plan sponsored through their institution of study. Most of these plans do provide coverage for students to meet with Psychologists or have Psycho-Educational Assessments completed. Ask your advisor or respective student association plan for more information on what you may have access to.
4) Band Funded (Band)
First Nations or Metis students who are being sponsored by their Band during their studies may be able to access funding through their Band to fund the costs of their assessment. Please refer to your Band to determine eligibility.
Where funding is available NOARC requires contact information for the Band in order for billing following your assessment.
5) Other
Students may also have access to other forms of funding such as Apprenticeship Programs, Out of Province Student Loans, or the ability to fund all or a portion of the invoice through their own means.
6) NOARC Funded
In instances where students do not have access to any of the noted funding options, the NOARC bursary will cover the costs of the assessment.
